Breaking the Rules of Design

Rebel Studios

Rebel Studios

In an era where everyone does what they are passionate about no matter what, Rebel Studios is a brand and web design studio that helps bold brands break out of their bubble in order to stand out and connect with their audience. I'm not going to lie, I was watching my favorite telenovela ever, Rebelde, when I was thinking of what to create for my next passion project. And that's how Rebel Studios was born. In the telenovela, the students stay true to who they are, while breaking the status quo and that's the mission behind this brand. To help brands stand out, be loud, but staying true to their strategic foundation.

The Scope

For this brand, we wanted to create a brand identity that had a bolder color palette and type. Because this is a digital brand, we wanted to incorporate a monospace font in the typesuite that still felt fun. This brand is all about being daring and striking that can cater to brands from multiple industries, so we went with a lightning strike logomark. Because we had a brighter color palette, we wanted to use the colors as pops throughout the website. Using the lighter neutral gray as the background kept things fresh but the pops of red and hot pinks throughout call to actions, footers, etc. really brought that boldness to life.

Research

Today, we see a lot of creators and brands creating content around trends and what's outdated, what's in, etc. While this is super helpful to get an insight on what's trending in order to reach a specific audience, it can also be overwhelming for the new brand owner. Approaching design with a strategy first mindset will help give a clear directon on how to reach these audiences, no matter what design trends are in or not. Also, every industry has "rules" that are meant to help you succeed, however, ruled don't have to be followed. Those tend to be the ones that stand out, am I right?

Some Final Thoughts

This was such a fun brand to create. I'm one, personally, to gravitate towards lighter colors and pastels, but something about the bold colors and type just makes me feel so, cool? Plus the mission behind it all makes me feel like I can do whatever I want without feeling pressured. I'd love to work more with edgy, cool, brands, so if you feel that's you, let's chat! <3
